PURPOSE

Every assessment has its own intended purpose, and understanding this purpose is essential for effective test preparation. This webinar aims to explore the key aspects of the GRE verbal reasoning test by uncovering its underlying purpose. It also demonstrates how the GRE test can be a valuable teaching and learning tool for improving your students' academic English skills, especially for research higher degree students. I will introduce diverse question types and offer practical test preparation strategies from multiple perspectives, including the test taker’s viewpoint, the teacher’s viewpoint, and the test developer’s viewpoint. Real-world examples that you can implement as an educator will be shared. The session concludes with a Q&A to address any questions.

Haeng-A (Karen) Kim

Haeng-A is a qualified TESOL teacher who specialises in teaching TOEFL and GRE, and author in South Korea for test preparation textbooks. She has founded her online learning platform, karenglish.com, where self-diagnostic assessments that she developed are used as a learning tool for students to identify their learning needs and to autonomously improve their English skills.
Haeng-A is also a practitioner researcher in English Language Assessment affiliated to the University of Cambridge and a 2022 winner of ETS TOEFL Scholarship to attend and present in the IATEFL Conference in the UK.
